Mock Draft Central About Mock Draft Central

Press Releases & News Features

When the concept for Mock Draft Central first popped into my head back in 2001, I never imagined it would grow like it has.

I guess I should have known that when you mix an addicting hobby, technical know-how, hyper-ambition and a cold beer anything is possible.

We originally rolled out our first product in April, 2002. It was primitive by our current standards, yet the amount of positive and constructive feedback we received was amazing.

By 2003, we had added tons of great new features and innovations. By the end of the year, our subscriber base exceeded 1000 people. It was very exciting, to say the least.

2004 was a defining year for MDC. In June, I made Mock Draft Central my full-time job. Internet technology had sufficiently evolved and we knew it was time to build our next generation drafting tools. Not only did we create an incredibly powerful and flexible drafting environment, but we made something people really enjoyed using.

2005 brought both the best and worst times for Mock Draft Central. We signed up our 6,000th subscriber, ran over 7,000 drafts, signed several licensing deals, and rolled out some really exciting new features. I also got to experience the challenges of growing a company from a couple dedicated dudes to a real company where I didn't have my hands in everything. By the end of the year, I had not only accepted that I couldn't do everything, but I embraced it since it allows me to focus on (cliche warning!) the "big picture", meaning I was able to spend more of my time sorting through the details of new features and spreading the gospel of MDC.

2006... I used to go to bed thinking, "How could it get any better than this? I'm able to work at something I love and still eek out mortgage payments." Now, I realize that the sky is the limit. People love Mock Draft Central almost as much as I do. If we keep delivering exciting, innovative ideas and continue helping people compete in their fantasy leagues, my dream will be realized -- having every fantasy sports owner in the world use our drafting technology at least once. Ambitious, sure. But that's never stopped me before.

As always, if you have any thoughts, concerns, or comments about Mock Draft Central, send me an email (pliml*at*mockdraftcentral.com) and I'll be sure to respond.
