Using Average Draft Position (ADP) Effectively
So how do you make the most out of this valuable information? First and foremost, understand that draft picks are currency and the draft is the marketplace. The ADP report tells you how the broader market values the player commodities. In short, it keeps you from overpaying and helps you identify bargains in your actual draft.
Secondly, ADP information is key to formulating your draft strategy. Sit down with an ADP list in hand and compare your projected player performance rankings with the average draft positions. This is where you uncover real value in the draft. The fantasy marketplace is woefully inefficient -- not all fantasy points are viewed as equal. By filtering out subjectivity, your chances of building the best possible team increase dramatically.
Third, locate an ADP trend report or find three ADP reports from different time periods. In particular, notice what players have become more popular and which are seeing lower demand. Draft day, while fun, is also a bit stressful. This is for real and you don't want to make a costly mistake. As a result, players trending upward in mock drafts will go even earlier during your league draft. Conversely, players falling out of favor will tend to last even longer when the rubber meets the road at your real draft.
